Jace Bloomberg is a 17-year-old classical guitarist at the Special Music School, a unique public-private partnership with the Department of Education and Kaufman Music. Inspired by his older brother, Jace began playing guitar at age 8 and has since continued his craft under the guidance of notable instructors such as Tali Roth, Oren Fader, Bradley Colten, and Kenji Haba. His dedication to classical guitar is reflected in his extensive training and coursework, including guitar ensemble, guitar studio class, jazz guitar, music theory, ear training, music history, music technology, and music entrepreneurship.
Jace actively seeks opportunities to perform and grow as a musician. He attended the Eastman Classical Studies Summer Program in 2023 and continued his studies in 2025 at the Peabody Summer Classical Guitar Intensive and the Bienen School of Music Classical Guitar Workshop at Northwestern University, expanding his performance and ensemble experience with world-class faculty and peers.
His passion for sharing music extends to his volunteer work with Concerts In Motion, an organization that brings live music to homebound and elderly individuals. Through this, Jace has performed in a variety of settings ranging from shelter homes to one-on-one home visits. He was invited to perform and deliver the keynote speech at Merkin Hall for CiM’s Annual Gala, representing the organization’s mission and sharing his experience as a performer and volunteer. Jace also volunteers with the Witness Theater Team, working side-by-side with Holocaust survivors as the lead musician to tell their stories through music, performing in venues such as the Sheen Center and the JCC.
Outside of his musical pursuits, Jace is an academically driven student, and has taken coursework in subjects including AP Calculus, AP Literature and Composition, AP Government and Politics, AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, AP Language and Composition, AP U.S. History, AP Physics, and Spanish. He also explores his interest in business and technology through courses such as the Drexel Music, Math, and Coding course, a Drexel Business course, and a Cornell Pre-College Course in Science, Technology, and Politics.
A committed leader, Jace serves as 11th and 12th Grade Representative on the Student Government and Treasurer of the National Honors Society. He is also part of the SMS Ambassador Club, contributing to the school community through leadership and service.
Jace actively supports Breaking Ground, an organization dedicated to helping homeless individuals, and has volunteered at their annual gala as well as multiple shelter events. This October, he will perform classical guitar for guests at their annual gala.
With a large interest in blending his musical talents with other disciplines, Jace aspires to build a future that merges music with many other subjects. He looks forward to studying classical guitar performance and music cognition in college. Through his solo and ensemble work, Jace continues to refine his artistry, push musical boundaries, and inspire and connect with others through the power of music.
